Small inky fingers

I had the most lush, different kind of day today.

I got the metro into Newcastle to go look at art in the Print Biennale, all by myself! How decadent ha ha.

I saw the Small Print International at the Biscuit Factory and then went to Symposium: The relevance of print in contemporary art education.

Small Print International is a collection of prints measuring no more than 100 square centimetres, by 92 artists from 18 countries.

It was really exciting to see the work displayed all together so that the eye enjoys looking at lots of images and moving around and then spotting something new. This actually requires more concentration than you'd imagine!!

It was interesting to consider the impact that a really small work of art can have in comparison with a large piece. It really draws the viewer in to examine the art work closely and to then notice each mark and colour.

The exhibition came with a catalogue that showed each art work in colour. It was nice to look through this after looking at the work over a coffee to then return to it to see things I might have missed on first look.

I have included some images of work that I was particularly drawn to. I really liked the blue image by Kozlowski which looks like it has been printed on blue square paper.
