Big visits today around Newcastle and Gateshead print biennale and art scene!

My wee tour today was of:

Gateshead Library (print biennale)

Laing Art Gallery (Rosie Morris exhibition and Out of Chaos exhibition)

Northern Print (print biennale).

The print biennale has exhibits all over Gateshead and Newcastle. I have even been to a family print workshop in Hexham as part of the biennale events. I can see that this is a wonderful way to allow lots of people to see art work in lots of locations. However I sometimes found it a long way to go to see them all.

My favourite of all the biennale exhibitions were the small prints at the Biscuit Factory (see last blog).

I enjoyed seeing lots of different types of print, such as Sara Ogilvie who has her prints in children's books (Gateshead library), to prints of broken iPhone covers (Sam Hodge) and prints presented on a roll of paper (Northern Print).

I loved some of the paintings in the Out of Chaos exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery (not part of the biennale). I was really drawn to the painting by Frank Auerbach of Morning Crescent, Summer Morning II. I loved the way that the paint has been applied to suggest images. I thought of this application of paint a lot when I went back into Uni.
