Went to London today with my dear friends to see the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2017.
I've attached some of my favourite images from the exhibition. I loved the rooms which I thought were particularly painterly and printy (Gallery V and the Lecture Room).
I sat for ages in the Lecture Room just observing the paintings. I loved Anselm Kiefer's Und du Bist Maler Geworden. I read somewhere once of Kiefer's works that sometimes if your work is beautiful then people will stop and look at it and then be able to discover the deeper meaning.

This year I really enjoyed the artwork made with fabrics and textures, particularly the work of Zak Ove. This was a 180x122 cm covered in crocheted doilies.

This year I was more aware of the number of Royal Academicians exhibiting compared to members of the public. I'm not sure if there was or if it just seemed so when looking through the catalogue. I hope it wasn't the case because part of the wonderfulness of this exhibition is that you could be looking at a wall of art and there will be someone who lives in your street next to a famous established artist.
Below are images of Gillian Ayres prints (both woodcuts on Unryushi Japanese paper) and a selection of prints that I included because I was really drawn to the dog prints as inspiration (Bad Dog, woodcut by Alsop & Frere)
